Me is back!
After a fair eight months of absence from the English blog scene I've decided to make a come-back. We'll see how long that will last.
The biggest news is probably that Denmark is only a mere two weeks away and I have not packed a single thing. The original plan was to take as little as possible with me, but now I suddenly want to take EVERYTHING.
We've got a flat, in South- Copenhagen, very well situated acctually, close to the beach (YES there is a beach in Copenhagen!) and close to the international airport as well, close to the city centre and pretty much close to everything - but not our schools. But what the hey, we'll manage. It's a 40 minute two bus ride to get to my school and a little bit further for Bjarni, but the lucky b***tard can take the train, which is so much nicer than the bus.
I got into the Multimedia Design course in a school called Copenhagen Technical Academy (or Köbenhavns Tekniske Skole - www.kts.dk). I also got into the English course at Copenhagen University, but turned them down. Sadly.
Well, since I wrote the last time I have been to Denmark four times, three of which were just romantic adventures and one that was hard work at Roskilde festival. But it was good fun. We gather that we must have walked about 4-5 kilometres each day which, for me, is a bloody miracle. But I have to say, I'm excited to see my city again, even though it means leaving friends and family behind.
Well enough of this, I have to get back to work (which is bullshit, but you know..). I'll try and upload a few pictures of where in CPH we're staying, or else you can just go to www.krak.dk and type in Øresundsvej 9 :)
That's all for now :)
Studying
I'm reading British Cultural History at the moment, about education to be specific - I didn't realize universities were so expensive in England! Come on! The University of Iceland is relatively free, we pay the equivilant of like 400 pounds annually and everyone is extremely cross about that! And that's like nothing compared to the minimum of what, 1000 pounds per year in England. Well. It's obvious that I'll just have to move to England and single-handedly change this :)
Well back to the books...
Hallowe'en
Evidently we celebrate Hallowe'en in Iceland too. We don't to the trick or treat thing, though, we do our own version of that on Ash Wednesday. Anyway, Hallowe'en in Iceland is an eve of fancy dress, but not strictly the grotesque dead-body-decappitated-witch sort of thing. The English Department had a Hallowe'en celebration last night and me and Iris went dressed up in the most outrageous 80's costumes as you can see above. And bloody good fun it was, too. To our misfortune, this was the night of the first snow. Thank God I had spent two hours that morning queueing to get my car tires changed. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten far. The winged hair, unfortunately, sort of went flat due to all that snow, but frankly we didn't care. I'm writing another essay in school now (I just don't understand why they make us do all that work (harhar)) and this time it is supposed to be about the cultural dominance of English-speaking countries. Interestingly enough, during my research, I found out that over 80% of all home pages on the internet are written and administered in English, with home pages written in German following "closely", with the grand total of 4.5% . I wonder in which place Icelandic home pages would be...
Well, it's 03:30 on a Sunday morning, I've been writing since 8 o'clock last night and I'm stuck. Wonder if it's time to go to bed yet. I feel I should be down town ridiculously dressed, for some reason.
Good night
